Beautiful Family · Parenthood

Raising them slowly, on purpose.

We have six children. People usually ask how we do it, and the honest answer is that we don't do it all. We decide what matters most in each season and we protect it.

Parenthood is not a project to manage. It is the most important work we will ever do, and it deserves our best thinking, not just our leftover energy.

What we believe

Childhood is short. We want it to feel long.

We have chosen a slower childhood for our kids. More time outside. More time at the kitchen table. Less hurry, fewer activities, more room to be bored and curious and creative.

That choice costs us something. It means saying no to good things so we can say yes to the best things. But when we look at our children, we have never once regretted it.

You either miss it now, or you miss it later. We decided we would rather not miss it at all.

How we parent

A few principles we keep coming back to

01

Presence over perfection

Our kids don't need a perfect mom. They need a present one. We build our work around our family, not our family around our work.

02

Structure that frees

Rhythms, routines and simple systems give children security. They also give parents margin. Structure is not rigidity. It is what makes flexibility possible.

03

Faith at the center

We want our children to know they are loved by God before they ever accomplish anything. Everything else is built on that.

04

Responsibility early

Even our little ones have real jobs. Contribution builds confidence, and a home runs better when everyone owns a piece of it.

05

Home as the gathering place

We want our home to be where our kids and their friends want to be. That means an open door, a full table, and a little bit of mess.

06

Parents as a team

David and I talk about our children constantly. We plan together, we adjust together, and we try to stay united in front of them.

Harmony over balance

Every season asks something different.

There is no perfect balance with a newborn in your arms and an oldest asking big questions. Some seasons the baby needs most of you. Some seasons it is the oldest. Some seasons it is your marriage, or your own health.

Harmony is noticing what this season is asking for, and giving it your attention without guilt. Then trusting that the next season will ask for something else.

For the mom who feels behind

You were created for this.

If you feel stretched thin, you are not failing. You are probably carrying too much without a system to hold it.

Start small. Pick one rhythm this week, a morning routine, a family dinner, a weekly reset, and keep it. Small, consistent choices compound into a family culture.
