Beautiful Family · Homeschool
Learning at the kitchen table.
We homeschool our six children. It was not a decision we made lightly, and it is not one we think every family has to make.
It started at our kitchen table, with workbooks spread between the breakfast dishes. Today we have a homeschool room of our own, a space set apart just for learning, though the kitchen table still gets plenty of use.
Why we homeschool
We wanted more of their childhood, not less.
Homeschooling lets us build our days around what matters most to us: faith, character, curiosity, and time together. Our kids can go deep on what they love and slow down where they need to.
It also gives us flexibility. Learning happens at the table, in the garden, with the animals, on the road, and in the ordinary moments of running a home.
What it really looks like
Not a classroom. A home that learns.
Our days are not picture perfect. There is a baby on someone's hip, a math lesson in progress, and someone asking for a snack.
Having a dedicated room changed the rhythm of our days. Learning has a home now, and so does the mess. What makes it work is still the same: a general flow to our mornings, clear expectations, and a lot of grace when the day does not go as planned.
Our approach
Principles that guide our homeschool
01
Rhythm over rigid schedule
We plan the flow of the day, not every minute. Structure gives security, flexibility gives life.
02
Character before curriculum
We care more about who our children are becoming than how quickly they finish a workbook.
03
Real life is school
Cooking, gardening, caring for animals, serving others, and watching their parents build a business are all part of their education.
04
Older helps younger
Our older kids teach and help the little ones. It builds patience, leadership and connection.
05
Seasons, not years
Some seasons are full and productive. Some are quieter. We plan in seasons and adjust as we go.
06
Mom is a person too
A homeschool mom who never refills will burn out. Protecting my own time makes me a better teacher.
